Produced by Wild Pictures, granted exclusive and intimate access to the Regal Princess, the 6 x 30’ series will go behind the scenes as the ship travels through the Baltic Sea from Copenhagen to St Petersburg, following some of the 1,400 crew as they deal with the daily demands of up to 4,000 passengers.
The Cruise will feature key figures dealing with the challenges they face on the luxury liner, including the captain who is charged with navigating his way through narrow coastal routes into centuries old harbours and the Hotel General Manager, who’s responsible for ensuring passengers receive the five star service they have been promised.
The Cruise will also focus on the human stories floating alongside the running of the ship, from injury and homesickness among the dancers in the entertainment team to the chef feeling the heat in the kitchen as he oversees the provision of 20,000 meals a day.
For many of the multinational crew of housekeepers, waiters, and casino hosts who work to keep the passengers happy, working on the Regal Princess is a dream job and The Cruise follows the ups and downs of life aboard – from career ambitions and broken hearts, to missing home and the joys of seeing the world through a port-hole.
The Cruise is commissioned for itv by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual and Richard Klein, Director of Factual.
Jo said: “We love seeing what really goes on in self-contained worlds and a cruise ship on the scale of the Regal Princess is almost like a floating town. The Cruise promises to give our viewers an entertaining port-hole peek into a unique way of life that many of us dream of sampling.”
