The government of Thailand is to give farmland to poor families to enable them to live and farm for themselves.

It is believed that 450,000 families will benefit from the scheme which will start in February, as announced by the Natural Resources and Environment minister, Gen Dapong Rattanasuwan, also the chairman of Land Providing Subcommittee under the Committee of National Land Policy.

Under the scheme the free land cannot be sold by the recipient, but can be used by the recipient families for crops or animals.

The government has also announced that they are speeding up the process in order to benefit those in need quicker.
