Police have issued an urgent appeal to trace a blue Vauxhall Astra believed to have been involved in a hit and run collision in which a pensioner was knocked down.
The woman – who is around 70-years-old – was crossing Coventry Road near the junction with Yew Tree Lane in Yardley at around 11.30am today (Feb 16) when she was hit by a car heading out of town.
She was left in the road in a critical condition whilst the driver – understood to be an Asian or mixed-race male – sped away from the scene. It is thought to have last been sighted further along Coventry Road turning off Wagon Lane or Keswick Road.
West Midlands Police Chief Inspector Neil Hobson, said: “We understand the car to be a navy blue Vauxhall Astra, possibly an 03 or 05 plate, and driven by an Asian male. It is likely to have front and nearside damage.
“The lady has suffered very serious injuries. We have a sizeable police presence out trying to trace this vehicle – if anyone spots a car matching the description I’d urge them to contact us on the 101 number.
“Similarly, if anyone witnessed the collision or has any information about what happened or the driver then call us immediately.”
