Appeal following hate crime in Tipton

POLICE in Sandwell are appealing for witnesses following a violent assault on a family in Tipton, which appears to be racially motivated.

A man and his wife were assaulted with bricks and a stick in front of their young children, resulting in the man needing hospital treatment for his injuries, where he still remains. It appears the incident was completely unprovoked.

The incident occurred on Sunday 8 January at 8:30pm on Henn Street, Tipton.

Sergeant Stephanie Court, from the Princes End neighbourhood policing team, said: “The family are understandably traumatised by their experience and I would like to appeal for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact me, in the strictest confidence.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to make it clear that we do not tolerate any form of hate crime in Tipton and we will seek to prosecute those involved in such activity. Thankfully this kind of offence is rare in this area.”

Witnesses to the incident are advised to contact the Princes End neighbourhood team pn 0345 113 5000 extension 7630 6804 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
