Appeal to reunite widow with late husband’s watch
POLICE in Birmingham are trying to reunite an elderly lady with her late husband’s watch, which was stolen during a burglary at her Moseley home.
Thieves entered the home of Mrs Helema Wright and took precious items of jewellery from her bag, some time between Wednesday 5 October and Friday 7 October.
Amongst the stolen items are a gold Rolex watch, which belonged to the 87-year-old’s late husband, and a gold wedding ring.
PC Louise Copus, from Sheldon police station, is investigating the burglary, she said: “Mrs Wright always keeps a few items of jewellery in her bag, as they are very precious to her.
“We know that someone has entered her home and taken these items at some point over a couple of days and after making various enquiries, which have failed to recover the stolen goods, we are urging the public to help.”
The watch is described as being a gold bracelet style watch with the Rolex crown symbol on either strap and an added safety bracelet. The watch has a very small face, described as being the size of a 5 pence piece. Mrs Wright has supplied police with the serial number and so the correct watch can be quickly identified.
PC Copus added: “Mrs Wright very rarely leaves the house and the jewellery had been seen on 4 October.
“The value of the watch is unknown but it is the sentimental value which is causing the victim a great deal of distress.”
Mrs Wright added: “It makes me want to cry every time I think about that watch, it was my husband’s watch, it means everything to me and I just want it back.”
Anyone who is able to help the police investigation is urged to call Birmingham East police on 0345 113 5000, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
