Real Madrid star drops cup under bus
Real Madrid players waited 18 years to win a domestic cup – and then dropped it under the wheels of the team bus.
The Copa del Rey was crushed after defender Sergio Ramos dropped it off the open top deck amid chaotic celebrations in Madrid.
Ramos was waving the cup at fans who had gathered in Madrid ahead of the team’s arrival from Valencia.
It was recovered by members of Spanish police who returned it to the driver, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The incident failed to derail celebrations which ended with the traditional crowning of the Cibeles statue with Real Madrid’s bandana by team captain Iker Casillas.
Real Madrid won the Copa del Rey after defeating arch-rivals Barcelona with an extra-time goal scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is Real Madrid’s first domestic cup since 1993 and comes in Jose Mourinho’s debut season since joining from Inter Milan.
