Holby spoiler – Donna and Kieran
A new Holby City storyline will see hunky nurse Kieran Callaghan lose a leg following a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a Territorial Army medic.
Kieran (played by Barry Sloane) left Holby City hospital last month to head off into the war zone, but he is forced to head home after being injured in an “improvised explosive device” blast.
While coming to terms with his horrific injuries, Kieran will fall back into the arms of his on/off girlfriend, fellow nurse Donna Jackson (Jaye Jacobs) before they head off into the sunset in early March, having been written out of the series.
Speaking of his preparation for the role Barry told The Sun how he had researched lots of stories of real soldiers who have lost their limbs. “It was important for me to see some of the guys that had suffered in that way,” he said. “I wanted the character to be driven and give him a goal that he wanted to get better quickly.
“It comes from the wounded guys. They don’t sit around and feel sorry for themselves – they are so driven.”
Barry is hoping that his hard work and research will pay off and that the story will ring true with servicemen and their families who have been through similar real-life experiences. “I hope they will find some truth there and won’t be disappointed,” he said.
The storyline comes to its climax on 8 March when Kieran and Donna leave Holby City for good.
