BENIDORM WINS BIG

“They´ll be partying in the streets of Benidorm tonight,” said an elated Steve Pemberton as he and the rest of the cast of ITV´s hit comedy Benidorm collected their National Television Award for the best comedy show on Wednesday this week.

“Not because of this, because they always do!” he continued. The National Television Awards are considered to be the most prestigious in the entire awards calendar, simply because they are the only award that is voted for by the viewing public, rather than a panel of so called experts.

The evening wasn´t without surprises and disappointment however, especially as Eastenders was voted for as the best soap, which didn´t go down particularly well with Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt. He was seen shaking his head in disbelief as the winner was announced.

London´s O2 Arena played host to the gala awards ceremony, which was hosted once again by Dermot O´Leary. Typically, each year, a bumper list of shows and actors is issued, which is then voted on and shortlisted before being voted for again, so if your favourite didn´t win this year, make sure you look out for it next time. Voting is always available on the internet, just search for National TV Awards.

We would like to share our congratulations to Derren Litten, the writer and creator of the show, as well as the entire cast and crew in both the UK and Spain and to everyone who voted. Series 4 of Benidorm will be on our screens in the Spring, and will feature an appearance by two of our very own staff, as we mentioned in a previous issue, so make sure you look out for that and let us hope that ITV commission even more of what is now officially the best comedy show on television.
