Coronation Street Episode One
As part of the Coronation Street 50th Anniversary, ITV will be transmitting a repeat of the historic first episode on 9 December 1960.
Florrie Lindley buys the corner shop from Elsie Lappin and starts to learn the ropes. One of her first customers is Mission caretaker and local busybody Ena Sharples, who wastes no time interrogating her about her religious beliefs and marital status, as well as warning her about the neighbours.
Elsie Tanner despairs of son Dennis when he shows no sign of getting work, having been released from prison weeks ago. Elsie’s troubles multiply when her daughter Linda announces that she has walked out on her husband Ivan and is not going back.
Kenneth Barlow lets it slip that he’s taking a girl from university to the Imperial Hotel. His father Frank forbids Ken to spend his money at the place his mother Ida is employed and refuses to let him go. Ken is embarrassed when Susan Cunningham turns up at his home, having been stood up.
