The mystery of the light before death

According to experts in research on the white light, the explanation of this phenomenon could be closer to the science than supernatural. It is due to an increase in carbon dioxide levels in the blood caused by the breathing interruption.

Scientists at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, investigated the near-death experiences (NDE) of 52 patients who suffered cardiac arrest.

According to research published in the journal Critical Care (Intensive Care), eleven of these patients reported having an NDE, and the researchers found that levels of carbon dioxide in the blood of these eleven patients were higher than the rest.

It was not found a pattern associated with gender, age, education level, religious beliefs, fear of death, recovery or drugs given during the resuscitation of the patient.

Dr. Zalika Klemenc-Ketis study leader said: “There are several theories to explain the mechanisms of NDE. Our study provides important new information on the field of NDE phenomenon. Never before it was found this association with carbon dioxide and deserves further investigation.
