Hot dog eating champ arrested

A former hot dog speed-eating champion has been arrested after his arch-rival set a world record eating attempt.

Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi, 32, from Japan, tried to storm the stage in New York to disrupt American Joey “Jaws” Chestnut’s victory ceremony.

The Japanese man had ruled himself out of the in Coney Island, Brooklyn, because of a row with organisers over sponsorship.

A crowd chanted: “Let him eat! Let him eat!”, but police handcuffed Kobayashi and led him away, reports The Sun.

Without Kobayashi challenging, 26-year-old Chestnut swept away other contenders to claim his £12,000 prize.

New York police confirmed the Kobayashi was charged with resisting arrest, trespassing, and obstructing governmental administration.

He still retains various records from other competitions, including eating 57 cow brains in 15 minutes and 41 lobster rolls in 10 minutes.
