BBC Trust launches review of BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 7

The BBC Trust has begun its service review of BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 7.

To ensure licence fee payers are getting the best out of the BBC, the Trust reviews every BBC service at least every five years.

This review will look at the current performance of Radios 3, 4 and 7 – including the stations’ quality, distinctiveness and value for money – and the BBC’s future plans for the services. There will be a 12-week period of consultation, beginning today, when the public will be able to give their opinions on these services. Industry stakeholders will also be invited to contribute their views. The final report will be published in early 2011.

David Liddiment, BBC Trustee, who is leading the review for the Trust said:
“Each week Radio 4 reaches a significant audience who listen for over 12 hours on average – the longest of any BBC radio station. Radio 3 also attracts a core and loyal audience who listen for nearly six hours each week; and Radio 7 has the highest reach of the BBC’s digital stations, with just over a million listeners per week. That means there are a lot of people out there with views on these stations. As part of the review we want to hear from as many listeners as possible with their thoughts on the services.

“As well as their current performance we’ll also be considering whether the BBC’s future plans for the services are deliverable. We will ask the BBC Executive to address any issues identified as part of the process.”

The public consultation will be available on the Trust’s website for 12 weeks. The consultation form for individuals can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust.

@UK_Feminista Perhaps the BBC Trust should be looking at this rather than mucking about with Radio 3, 4, 6 & 7. :)

Just saw a BBC ad which may as well have said,”Do you have a view on Radio 3, 4 & 7?The BBC Trust pretend they want to know what you think.”
